Xiaomi has revealed the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro (Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition for the chinese market) and the Mi 8 Lite (or Mi 8 Youth Edition).
They may sound like a completely different pair of phones, but they are not much different from the standard Xiaomi Mi 8. The Pro edition has the same specs as the regular Mi 8, featuring a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage etc. However, the only difference is that the phone will feature an in-screen fingerprint reader. The phone is also available in the “Explorer edition”, with a transparent back or in a sunset gold gradient colorway. Want one? The 6 GB / 128 GB model will set you back $467, while the 8 GB / 128 GB will cost you $525. That is almost $60 for an extra 2 GB of RAM.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite – great budget phone
However, the Mi 8 Lite is the more interesting phone. For $204 you get a lot of bang for your money! You get the budget Snapdragon 660, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The cameras are not as impressive as on the regular Mi 8, however. You get a 12MP+5MP (f/1.9) dual-camera setup as opposed to the Mi 8’s 12MP+12MP setup.. However, the phone is focusing on the selfie credentials, with a 24MP front-facing shooter. Other Mi 8 Lite specs include a 6.26-inch notched LCD screen, a 3,350mAh battery, and a rear fingerprint scanner.
Want more memory? The 6 GB / 64 GB Mi 8 Lite is available for $248 and the 6 GB / 128 GB is available for 128 GB.
It is nice to see that there is a lot of competition in the budget market. The consumer always wins!
