Huawei has confirmed that their new chipset, Kirin 980, will feature a 7nm design, and will be featured in the Mate 20 series.
It is confirmed that Huawei has made a 7nm chipset, and that we will see it in use very soon! The chipset will be featured in the Mate 20, which will be released in October. Gearburn reports…
According to Mr. Richard Yu, the CEO of Huawei CBG [consumer business group – ed], Huawei will unveil the Kirin 980 at IFA, which will be the first commercially available 7nm chip in the world. The Kirin 980 will power the Mate 20 series. Huawei Mate 20 will launch with the world’s first 7nm chipset this October.
There is also talk about a in-house GPU, but that is still blurry, and should be taken with a grain of salt, even tho the company is more than capable of pulling that off.
A smaller design usually means a more powerful and a more efficient chip. It basically means you can get more power with almost no impact to battery life, compared to the current chipset. It is expected that Apple and Qualcomm will follow Huawei and also release a 7nm chipset. We will have to wait until October to see it in action.
